Back to Berkeley.
Russ took the hotel free Uber to the airport, and was gone by about 8:30. Booh! We had a good few days, though. So, slow day, as I stayed in the hotel a while and wrote my blog, and then took a slow drive from South San Francisco to Kaye in Berkeley.

Well, Kaye, apologetic many times over for not being fun, had to work, so I made do. Steve Shapiro wasn’t available today (and also won’t be joining me on my soon-to-be return journey home. So maybe I’ll see Steve tomorrow, which would be good, although I’d like to see Cynthia tomorrow as well, but I’ll wait to hear from Steve. I think I’ll probably stay only as long as it takes to see both Cynthia and Steve, and also Sam if possible.
So, I took a three mile walk around Berkeley, in the warm afternoon, ending at a movie theater in in the Elmwood district of Berkeley where I attended a matinee. Although Berkeley does look a little worn around the edges, the streets and homes are nice, and it actually seems like a modest working middle class neighborhood, even though these homes are actually very expensive. Most of my walking was in Elmwood, and then just crossing into Oakland.
Interestingly, most of the houses and buildings, especially as I came into Elmwood, are stuccoed, rather than wood finished, and the wood finish homes mostly use shingle or shakes, rather than clapboard. The look fits with Spanish-style architecture, although, unlike Southern Californian homes and buildings, other than the stucco, many of these homes are not otherwise Spanish or Mexican in style.

I saw the new film about Saturday Night Live, which wasn’t very good, although I’m glad to have seen it. No character development at all, and just thin and vague stereotypes of each of the characters in the film.

After the movie, and it was just late afternoon by then, I walked back to Kaye’s, about a mile or so, and we spent the remainder of the day and evening hanging out, eating burgers at home, and watching television. Well, sort of. Kaye was working, and around 8 I started falling asleep every few minutes until I finally went to bed around 9:45.
